Inspired by our friends from musicstep.de, I decided to write this blog post, describing 5 ways to connect with people in the music industry, especially as a music producer. Since I had my first beat placed on an album in 2012, I’ve used several ways to connect with people and get more placements, so I definitely know what I’m talking about here. Let’s go!
A great way to get your music to the right people is to search the web for people who are actively looking for it. It’s way easier to get your music heard by someone if he/she is already providing an opportunity. Labels and A&Rs are often providing demo mails, sometimes even well known artists. What I do often is to type in an artist name and a contact key word. Examples for a such a contact research via Google could be “[insert artist] send beats”, “[insert label] demo submission” or “[insert a&r] submit music”.
Altough the internet is the place to be nowadays, we should not forget about the advantages of face-to-face interactions. People are more likely to remember you when you had a real live conversation with them. In 2011, I went to a video shoot of german rapper Massiv, talked to him, got his mail and had my first placement on his record SLMHS one year later.
It is likely that you already know someone, who knows someone (and so on …) who could help you taking the next step on your journey to success. Especially when you are already active in the music industry for a while. Just keep your eyes open and think about who
Pages like Musicstep.de, Blazetrak or Taxi provide the opportunity to submit your music to industry professionals. You pay a fee and they guarantee you a response from the person you want to connect with. But be careful on who you submit your music too! Make sure they are credible and providing the network you are looking for. Also make sure they are looking for the type of music you have to offer.
#5 Make yourself a name on social media
Last but not least definitely consider building a strong brand so people are reaching out to YOU. Try to be active on social media, publish content (music, updates, etc.) regularily and make sure people can find you in via search engines.
Hope these tips are helpful! If so, please consider to share this and/or check out our social media pages! 🙂
Thanks and see you soon,
